Water bill calculations

Please prepare for class for Monday 2/9 by doing the following calculations on your water bill. This does not have to be turned in.

Use either your own water bill or a copy of the water bill passed out in class. For all calculations, ignore solid waste. We'll include wastewater.

  1. Calculate the total cost of water (the costs at the top + wastewater + sustainable water supply costs). Calculate the AC by dividing by the total number of gallons used.
  2. Calculate the per unit charges in each of these same categories (e.g., .874 + .0244 + ...). This is the marginal cost per unit. Convert into the marginal cost per gallon, using the fact that 1 unit = 748 gallons.
  3. How do these costs compare to the amount you spend on other goods? Bottled water?
